Is Nina Dobrev about to star in a new film? For years, there has been talk of a "Baywatch" film based on the popular '90s TV series. Now, according to Deadline, Paramount Pictures is gearing up to work on the highly anticipated movie, which will reportedly star Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron as the male leads.

The production company is said to have set a shortlist of actresses who will test for the female lead, and among those who might wear the iconic red swimsuits are Dobrev, Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson), Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse), Bianca Santos (The Duff), and Denyse Tontz (Big Time Rush).

Dobrev has not confirmed the news, but according to Deadline, it's possible that Paramount might expand the search and that fans will know for sure who will get the lead in the movie once it starts production in early 2016. According to the Hollywood Reporter, filming will start around February 2016.

The film reportedly centers on a "hotshot former Olympian," who clashes with the leader of an elite team of bodyguards. Comicbook.com  reported that the film will feature Efron and Johnson's characters teaming up in order to save the beach from an evil oil tycoon.

The original "Baywatch" TV series starred David Hasselhoff and it catapulted actresses Yasmine Bleeth and Pamela Anderson to stardom. The series was a syndicated hit during the '90s and was watched in 148 countries.

If Dobrev gets a part in the film, this will be her third movie role since leaving "The Vampire Diaries." The actress starred in this year's "The Final Girls" and she is currently filming another movie called "Crash Pad", a romantic comedy which also features "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor Domhnall Gleeson and Christina Applegate.

The 26-year-old is also set to star in "Arrivals," which will premiere in 2016. Dobrev will play a flight attendant named Izzy opposite "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams and Asa Butterfield.
