'NCIS' season 14: New female character to join Gibbs's team

Earlier this month, it was reported that Michael Weatherly, who plays Tony DiNozzo on "NCIS," is exiting the series after its current season. While fans will surely miss DiNozzo as he has been around since the first season of the show, it looks like Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will be welcoming new members to his team.

According to TVLine, the CBS show is looking to add fresh new faces to the team and that two new characters, one male and one female, will be series regulars.

Now, more information about the female character has come to light and according to the website, the CBS drama is looking for a well-known actress to play Tess, an FBI Special Agent in her late 30s who recently transferred to D.C. from New York City's Counter-Terrorism Unit.

In the show's tentative casting breakdown, the character is described as being quick, sarcastic, and shrewd and "two parts bulldog, one part sweet kitten." Tess is also said to as easily keep up with a group of politicians at a black-tie dinner party as she can with truck drivers at a roadside diner.

Just like Gibbs, Tess has been married several times, but her marriages have failed because, apparently, her husbands cannot keep up with her. She has no children, but she is said to be content to act as a mother figure to any co-worker who needs a shoulder to lean on. Tess is also said to have a temper and when she gets angry, she has a tendency to ruffle even her superiors' feathers.

Fans of the show took to TVLine's comment section to suggest several actresses for the part. One fan said that Diane Neal, who recurs on the show as Abigail Borin, should be added to the team permanently. Another suggested that "Covert Affairs" star Piper Perabo should have the role, while some agreed that "Longmire" star Katee Sackhoff is perfect for the part.

"NCIS" airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS.
