NBA trade rumors 2017: Cavs to trade Tristan Thompson for DeAndre Jordan?

The Cleveland Cavaliers (Cavs) of the National Basketball Association (NBA) may now be considering letting Tristan Thompson go for Los Angeles (LA) Clippers' DeAndre Jordan.

More than Jordan, the LA Clippers is also reportedly adding a draft pick for the Cavs to make the deal more alluring. Reports came from Cleveland.com's very own Joe Vardon, and while Jordan could only be a rental for the Cavs, they might go with the deal if it helps them win against the Golden State Warriors.

Jordan is also open to a lot of options since he is now in the last year of his contract with the LA Clippers. Cavs acquiring Jordan may also be useful for them, not only against the Golden State Warriors but also in the long run. Jordan has a stellar reputation in the NBA, being a one-time All-Star, a one-time All-NBA First Team selection, and a two-time NBA All-Defensive First Team selection.

Jordan has also been contributing a lot to the Clippers, averaging 10.4 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game, which was crucial for the struggling team. Meanwhile, Thompson from Cavs has had a rough season this year since he had a left calf strain injury, making him available for eight games only. His last appearance was during the Cavs' 124-107 loss to the Indiana Pacers.

Even before his injury Thompson has been struggling with his less than desirable average performance per game, with 4.4 points and 6.4 rebounds. Still, Thompson's contract is good until 2020, meaning the trade might encounter a legal hurdle, depending on Thompson's stance on the prospect.

To add to the problems, should Jordan's trade pull through for the Cavs, at best, his stint with them could only last for a year. If the Cavs somehow manage to acquire Jordan, as well as the first draft pick which the Clippers are adding into the deal, it might prove to be a successful next season for them, if only for a short time.

So far, no official statement has been released from either team or the players in question.
