Microsoft news: Company now developing AI for Windows 10

Microsoft is looking toward the near future with its newest update for its operating system Windows 10, as the company is planning to implement a form integrated artificial intelligence (AI) for the software.

Specifically, the AI tech is being developed for Microsoft's own desktop assistant mascot, Cortana where users can expect her to have better utilities and capabilities that can help the regular user. In addition to Cortana, Windows Hello, and Bing search will also be benefitting from the said planned AI.

So far, Microsoft has no official name for said AI platform yet, but the one definite thing for it is that it will only be available for Windows 10 or later in the future. Microsoft is confident that this newly developed AI will make the general Windows 10 user experience more smooth and pleasant since it will be boasting low latency and real-time results by leveraging a given computer's processing power. This means better hardware could equate to better performance.

This could come at quite a considerable cost in the processing power of the users' hardware though since Microsoft did namedrop some well-known video game graphics engines in that will supposedly be used to make the AI better, perhaps even give it a facade. Hence why the new Windows 10 AI might rely on the processing power of not just the central processing unit (CPU) but also the graphics processing unit (GPU), though there should be an option to disable said AI should users want to preserve system power for other applications.

What this means for regular Windows 10 users is that their computers might soon become a fully functioning AI assistant, like those imagined in films like 2014's "Her" whose star is the sentient female AI voiced by Scarlett Johanson, though that technology is still several years away for consumers.

Microsoft is also apparently looking to compete with other AI companies Google and Qualcomm, both of whom are also developing their own AI software and instructions. Windows 10 users need only wait a few more months for the said technology from Microsoft.
