'Madam Secretary' season 2 spoilers: Eric Stoltz to join cast

A first look at Morgan Freeman's character on the season 2 premiere of Madam Secretary CBS/ Madam Secretary

Actor Morgan Freeman is set to make a cameo in the upcoming season 2 premiere of "Madam Secretary." The acclaimed actor, who is also one of the executive producers of the political drama, will appear onscreen alongside Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni).

Entertainment Weekly reports that details about Freeman's role is being kept under wraps, but the website has exclusively learned that he will be playing a Supreme Court Justice and that he will share a scene with Leoni.

More information about the 78-year old's casting was revealed by Page Six, and the website reports that Freeman auditioned for the part. During auditions, co-executive producer Lori McCreary reportedly asked Freeman if he wanted to play the character. The actor was reportedly willing to take the role, but said, "Not without an audition." He reportedly put himself on video to vie for the role, and soon after, he got the part.

Meanwhile, actor Eric Stoltz has been cast as Elizabeth's brother. EW reports that his character is named Peter, described as "an adventurer and lifelong risk-taker." He and Elizabeth have a history of conflict and will be settling old scores when he comes to D.C. for a visit.

Aside from Freeman and Stoltz, more notable actors and political figures will be joining the series in season 2. Earlier this month, it was reported that "Crossing Jordan" star Jill Hennessy has been cast as Jane Fellows, who is Henry's new contact at the Defense Intelligence Agency. Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright will also appear in the show in the new season.

The second season of "Madam Secretary" will premiere on Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
