Macbook Pro vs Air 2014 rumors: 12-inch retina display with smaller bezels slated for release this year

Macbook Air Apple

A new line of Macbook Air and Pro notebooks are expected to be launched by Apple this year and latest rumors point to an all-new 12-inch model of the Macbook Air.

The 12-inch model will be possible by minimizing the width of bezels on the notebook, significantly reducing its size and weight without compromising the display size.

The current 11-inch model also has a reduced bezel, and the keyboard/trackpad have not been compromised.

Could this mean that the 11-inch and 13-inch Macbook Air could merge into one as the all new 12-inch Macbook Air?

The purported new size would definitely be an option for those opting for a smaller, lighter and cheaper notebook.

With the Retina Macbook Pro currently available in both 13 and 15 inch options, the Macbook Air may also finally adapt the Retina screen this time around.

The current Macbook Air boasts powerful specs and amazing battery life. The 11-inch lasts 9 hours, while the 13-inch lasts up to 12 hours. The notebook remains powerful with a 1.3 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5.

Other rumors surrounding the new 2014 Macbook Air includes a touch screen and touch buttons. Many laptop/tablet hybrids available today provide a touch screen option, and Apple may integrate that feature onto the Macbook Air displays.

The trackpad is also said to be improved with "force sensors and actuator feedback" which will enable users to use the trackpad with sensors alone rather than tapping it.

Apple is also rumored to phase out production of its non-retina Macbook Pro laptops with optical drive, replacing the Pros with a thinner body and frame.
