Lamar Odom health condition update: Former NBA star reportedly walks unassisted

Earlier this month, it was reported that Lamar Odom's recovery has been very slow as the former NBA player is said to be having some memory loss and is still unable to walk unassisted. But now, a new report claims that Odom showed some sign of progress last week as he allegedly walked for the first time without help from a person, or from a walker.

A source close to the former athlete told TMZ that on Thursday, Odom shocked the doctors when he took three steps without the use of a walker. Moreover, while it was reported that the star has limited motion on his hands, Odom is said to have been able to reach above his head to put his hood on while estranged wife Khloe Kardashian was with him during one of her recent visits.

He is also said to have improved brain function and is able to recognize a hospital staff member. TMZ was told that Odom will be moved to a rehab facility soon.

Meanwhile, a Radar Online source said that amid recent claims that Odom is recovering, the star is allegedly "still in pretty bad shape" and that the reports were spun by the Kardashians to prevent any future backlash against Khloe.

"Lamar has made great improvements after the overdose, but he is not walking and unfortunately there is no Christmas miracle for his condition," the source said to the website.

The insider added that sources close to the basketball star allegedly believe that the Kardashians are spinning the story to make it seem as though Odom was getting better, so that when Khloe spends less time with him or if she doesn't let him live with her, she won't get any criticism from fans or the media.

"It seems like they are all trying to get ahead of the backlash that is ultimately going to come when Lamar leaves the hospital," said the source.
