Kim Richards, formerly of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," has had a difficult year. After she was arrested for public intoxication, battery and resisting arrest in April, the former child star was arrested again on Sunday, Aug. 2, for allegedly shoplifting items worth over $600 from Target.

Entertainment Tonight reports that Richards was placed under citizen's arrest on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. and spent the night in jail. The arrest was reportedly made by a Target security officer at the retail store's Van Nuys location when she was suspected of stealing a shopping cart filled with mostly toys. She was placed on citizen's arrest until the police arrived at the premises.

Richards was charged on Monday, Aug. 3, on one count of petty theft. She was released Monday afternoon after posting $5,000 bail. Richards' first court date is scheduled on Aug. 20.

Meanwhile, Richards' ex-husband Monty Brinson is standing by the reality star, saying that the shoplifting incident must have been a misunderstanding.

"I couldn't imagine Kim stealing or shoplifting anything. She is a giver," said Brinson to ET. "I am in complete shock. Guaranteed this must be some kind of mistake, and the facts will come out soon."

He added that her arrest must have been a misunderstanding and denied that alcohol or drugs were involved.

The reality star entered an alcoholic rehabilitation center after the April incident at the Beverly Hills Hotel. She stayed for a month at the center and in July, she told ET that she had completed her treatment and had been sober for more than a month.
