These thrilled the pair's fans as they thought that the two might have gotten back together.
While it is unclear whether the pair is dating again or not, Bieber's new Instagram post on Tuesday, Dec. 1 caused quite a stir online, and fresh speculations about the on-again, off-again couple began to circulate.
The 21-year-old posted a throwback picture of him with Gomez, and in the photo, the two are sitting on an ATV with Gomez in the driver's seat. The "Heart Wants What it Wants" singer has her hand on Bieber's leg, but before anyone could jump to conclusions, Bieber captioned the shot, "Just a throwback calm down."
In just one day, the photo got 1.8 million likes and over 300,000 comments. Even Drake gave his take on the throwback photo, and it appears that the rapper is also rooting for the pair to get back together as he posted a comment, which reads, "[expletive] I thought this was a current Jelena pic."
It is believed that the photo was taken back in 2014 when Bieber took Gomez with him to his hometown in Canada, the same month when it was reported that Bieber got into a minor scuffle with a photographer who was trying to get a picture of him and Gomez on an ATV.
Meanwhile, a source told Hollywoodlife that the pair will continue to reconnect with each other because "they both are addicted to the drama of it all."
The insider said that both stars do not trust anyone and believe that some people have hidden agendas, which makes it hard for both of them to form relationships with other people.
"So this back and forth will continue and we shouldn't expect any end in sight," said the source.
