Pennywise definitely does not clown around, as a deleted scene from his 2017 horror movie reboot "It" shows how truly terrifying he is as a character.

Timothy Simons, one of the actors who auditioned for the role of Pennywise, revealed in a podcast a disturbing scene which did not make the final cut of the movie. Simons claimed that during his work in the production, a scene was intended for Pennywise to eat a baby in front of its mother as part of his origin story, certainly a gruesome moment for the character.

"It was [Pennywise] way back at the beginning of Derry, convincing a woman to give him her baby to eat. It was scary. The thing that was scariest about it was that it was very direct. It was, 'If you don't do this, these are the things that I'm going to do.' And they were all terrible," said Simons in the podcast.

Bryan Safi, another actor who auditioned for Pennywise and was also one of the co-hosts of the said podcast, shared that he still has his script. Safi, in line with the scene which Simons described, told of a similar scene where Pennywise demands a mother's newborn baby from her in exchange for not killing her, her husband, and the rest of her children.

The scenes were not included in the movie but are indications that the creative team behind Pennywise was interested in exploring more of his origins and backstory. This was not the first time that Pennywise's exploits were excluded in the final cut of the movie, as a controversial ritual scene directly from Stephen King's book of the same name was also omitted by the director.

It could be possible that one of the two scenes mentioned above will be appearing in the franchise's future, as a second movie is already in the works.
