Apple fans anticipated the release of the iPhone 7 after the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus made a killing in the market last year, and rumors about the upcoming device have been circulating the Internet since then. But with the announcement of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at an Apple event earlier this month, it looks like those who are looking to get their hands on the iPhone 7 will have to wait another year for the much-anticipated gadget.

Tech experts and Apple fanatics have taken note of how the Cupertino-based company typically releases new devices every September, and there are rumors that the next iPhone will be announced in the same month next year.

As for the exact date, PCAdvisor speculates that since the 6s and 6s Plus were announced last Sept. 9, and the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on Sept. 9, 2014, the iPhone 7 could possibly be launched on Sept. 9, 2016. However, the date falls on a Friday, and according to the website, it is more likely that Apple will unveil the iPhone 7 on a Tuesday, which is either Sept. 6 or Sept. 13, 2016.

Meanwhile, a Chinese-language Commercial Times report appears to confirm that the iPhone 7 will be well on its way next year, according to Digitimes.com. The website reports that an unnamed Apple supplier told the Commercial Times that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company will be the sole supplier of Apple's next generation A10 processors, and that volume production will allegedly start in March 2016. The A10 is said to be featured on the iPhone 7, slated for release during the third and fourth quarters of 2016. TMSC has reportedly declined to comment on speculation about orders and customers.

As for its specs and features, the iPhone 7 is rumored to have much of the same specs as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, with the addition of waterproof protection, an e-SIM or electronic SIM card, and a Touch ID Display.
