'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' spoilers: James Gunn reveals official title, plot details

After Chris Pratt's highly entertaining turn in this summer's "Jurassic World," many are now anticipating the actor's next big project, which is the sequel to last year's smash hit, "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Last month, director James Gunn opened up about the sequel to Collider at the Saturn Awards, and he said that the upcoming film's tone may differ from that of the original.

"I think it's a more emotional movie," he said. "It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters."

Gunn also shared that the film will provide interesting hints for those interested in Marvel's greater mythology.

"We get to learn a lot about fathers in the second movie," Gunn said, which means that it's possible that Peter Quill's father will make an appearance in the film, and questions about his parents will be answered. In the first film, it was revealed that Peter is not entirely human.

One of the things that definitely contributed to the original film's success and relatability was its soundtrack, which Peter dubbed "Awesome Mix Vol. 1." At one point in the movie, it was revealed that Peter also has a second "Awesome Mix," and Gunn said fans have a lot to look forward to in terms of the sequel's soundtrack because it will be heavily featured in the movie.

"We haven't listened to 'Awesome Mix 2' yet, so we get to hear it in the sequel," the director said.

On June 28, Gunn announced via Twitter that the sequel will be called "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2." When fans refused to believe him, he tweeted a follow-up message, writing, "Okay, I'm not being sarcastic, guys. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 IS truly the title."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will premiere on May 5, 2017.
