Despite the sincerity of the feelings between Jackson (Jesse Williams) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) in "Grey's Anatomy" season 14, the stepsibling couple might ultimately have to deal with a heartbreaking problem.
This impending trouble in episode 9, the season finale of the show, may be attributed to the fact that they are legally brother and sister. The episode is titled "Four Seasons in One Day" and is set to be one dramatic finale to "Grey's Anatomy" season 14. One apparent thorn in the two's illegitimate relationship is Richard, (James Pickens Jr.) Maggie's father, who is still oblivious to the growing attraction between the two.
Should he find out what is going on between the two in the next episode, the two might head for a really difficult road. Pickens Jr. has even spoken about what fans can expect once the episode airs and is equally disturbed and worried for the two as well as his character.
"I'm trying not to think about that! Leave it to Shonda [Rhimes, the series' creator]. I don't want to divulge, but I think she's setting it up to make a real hard left turn with this thing here," said the 63-year-old actor. Still, despite the two being brother and sister, they are not exactly blood-related, meaning that technically, there is nothing incestuous about the two's relationship.
Meanwhile, McCreary also states that the notion is definitely a hard pill to swallow since the two basically just met and now have a budding romance. Effectively, they are still getting to know each other. Despite this, McCreary remains optimistic that the two's relationship will weather the storm and prevail since according to her, some of television's most successful romance stories are those where the characters are severely challenged to the point of exhaustion.
Some fans, however, do not share the same opinion as McCreary and have even stated that the two's relationship in the show is one of the worst ideas ever in television not because of the incest factor, but because it merely came out of nowhere.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 14 episode 9, "Four Seasons in One Day" will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
