Last week on "Grey's Anatomy," Meredith struggled to get through a dinner party when Callie brought her new girlfriend, Penny, to introduce to everybody. What should have been a happy time became a miserable evening for Meredith as Penny's presence reminded her of Derek's death. Back in season 11, Penny was the doctor who was unable to save Derek's life after his accident, and it would be hard for Meredith to forget something like that.

Meredith thought that after the dinner, everything would be back to normal as she won't likely run into Callie's girlfriend anytime soon, but she got the shock of her life when she learned that Penny would be transferring to Grey Sloan as a new resident.

But it looks like Meredith will find a way to cope with this development, while Amelia will struggle to be in the same building as the woman who wasn't able to save her brother's life.

In the promo video for the upcoming episode titled "The Me Nobody Knows," Meredith and Penny are at the hospital, and Meredith is quizzing the other doctor on what she sees on the scan.

Penny answers, but when Meredith tells her to be more specific, the newcomer struggles to find the correct answer, and Meredith looks at her and says, "The right kidney. It's a grade four injury..."

Amelia and Stephanie arrive, and Penny asks if she should go upstairs. Amelia looks at the scans and clears the man,--a pastor who gave his congregation "a special blessing-- for surgery, and when Meredith asks Penny to get the man ready for transport, Amelia tersely tells Stephanie to show her where it is.

After the two ladies have left, Amelia asks Meredith, "It's not enough that she's here in the building, but you invited her to be on your service too?"

"I am trying to rise above," said Meredith. "And you should too." Amelia angrily tells her that she could have put a stop to Penny becoming a resident at the dinner party.

'Grey's Anatomy' airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
