Google event October 24, 2013: Nexus 5, 10 2 will not launch today [start time, live stream info]

UPDATE: Fans had hoped that Google will unveil its LG manufactured Nexus 5 smartphone at the Google Play event on Oct. 24, but according to a latest report, there will be no new hardware announcements today.

Ubergizmo reports that a Google spokeswoman mentioned to Electronista: "The October 24th event will not be a launch of a device or hardware, rather a mixer for consumer press to better acquaint themselves with Google Play."

Google's press invitation states: "Join us for a night out with Google Play – Music, movies, games and a special performance by Capital Cities." The event will start at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT.

Google has not announced a live stream for tonight's event yet, but if a stream is available, it will be available online on Youtube. Check back for more details later.

According to a report by TechRadar, the event is a "meet and greet for consumer press to learn more about Google Play and no news will be spilled." A demonstration of the updated Google Play Store 4.4 will reportedly be held at the Oct. 24 event. This may mean that any new hardware such as the Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 2 will not be unveiled.

Other rumors point to a late October or early November release date for the Nexus devices.

IB Times reports: "Fans and pundits alike are certain that Google will announce the Nexus 5 on Oct. 28, as per several images shared on various KitKat social media pages.

Pre-order listings for the Nexus 5 have been popping up all over auction site eBay prior to today's Google Play event, with one listed as $650.The listing shows a 32GB version of the LG Nexus 5 for a whopping $650 – which is hundreds more than the rumored price of $300-$400. Shipment of the device is listed as between Oct. 30 to Nov. 11. However, buyers should be wary purchasing the smartphone based off the current listings.

The hype for the upcoming device, including the Nexus 10 2, has been enormous, despite Google not releasing any official information about the specs and price. Both devices are expected to feature the all new Android 4.4 Kitkat mobile operating system, which has also been kept under wraps by Google.
