The best game of 2017 from Dualshockers will have to wait, as the website has compelled its readers and fans to vote first for the Best Waifu and Best Husbando of 2017 in gaming instead before the Game of the Year awards.

Gaming website Dualshockers left a lot of room for peculiarity back in Christmas Eve, where players will get to vote who their choices are for the best female and/or male character they are attracted to in video games. The catch is that they can only vote for characters who have appeared in video games released during 2017; votes containing otherwise will be invalidated.

Despite the time restriction of the contest, more freedom is given to the players since they can also vote for characters who are not protagonists. This makes side characters, and even villains, eligible to win the best waifu or husbando award in gaming. Despite the namesake of the title, the nominees need not be Japanese and can also come from any video game regardless of the platform.

Fans who want to see their favourite hero or heroine win will have to hurry up making their minds, as voting only lasts until Dec. 30. The results will then be announced on Dec. 31, along with the results for other voting categories such as Game of the Year or Reader's Choice award.

For those unfamiliar, the internet slang waifu was popularized by the Japanese Otaku culture, where attraction for a fictional anime character is quite common. The word itself was derived from the Japanese mispronunciation of the English word "wife," while "husbando" is the male counterpart of waifu and was derived likewise. Since then, the culture has spread to other media forms, particularly in video games.

To vote for the best Waifu and/or best Husbando of 2017 in gaming, people only need to go to the voting page of Dualshockers and make sure to vote until Dec. 30.
