'Five Nights at Freddy's' novel adaptation to release this month on Kindle

Five Nights at Freddy's Scott Games/Steam

Over the last two years, "Five Nights at Freddy's" has become one of the most successful game franchises as Scott Cawthon continued to deliver a lot of scary moments with each installment in the series.

Now that the game is making a big change from its traditional jump-scare formula to a seemingly less frightening RPG called "Five Nights at Freddy's World," Cawthon reveals that he is far from done with the series as the developer announced that a "Five Nights at Freddy's" novel will be released soon, just in time for Christmas.

According to Game Rant, the novel was announced of the "FFAF" official website via coded messages. The website says that last week, a teaser image for "Five Nights at Freddy's World" was changed to a picture of Freddy Fazbear with the text, "Five Nights at Freddy's The Untold Story" and "Coming Soon."

Kotaku reports that Cawthon took to the Steam forums this weekend to give more details about the novel, as he said that he didn't want the forums to be inundated with questions about it before the launch.

"This is not something recent; I've been working alongside a professional writer for the last ten months crafting this story, and I'm very excited about the finished product," Cawthon wrote.

As for the story itself, the game developer said that the upcoming novel "expands the mythos and reveals a human element never before seen in the games."

Cawthon said that the book will be available for the Amazon Kindle first, but those who don't own a Kindle can get the e-book via the Kindle app, which is compatible with the iPhone, Android devices, and computers. The developer added that those who would rather get a hardback version of the book can get it next year, as the novel will be available in bookstores by then.

On Monday, Cawthon updated his post on the Steam forums and said that the official title of the book will be revealed on Tuesday, Dec. 15. He also clarified that "The Untold Story" is just a placeholder and will not appear in the novel.

The "Five Nights at Freddy's" novel will be available on Amazon Kindle on Dec. 22.
