Facts about Meghan Markle's divorced parents and half-siblings

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just recently announced that they are engaged, but how much do the fans know about their family? Both are public personalities, but since Prince Harry's family has long been out in the eyes of the public, so many are scrambling to find pieces of information about the actress' family.

The "Suits" actress is the daughter of Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, who said they were happy about the announcement. "Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents," the proud parents said as a seal of approval.

Meghan's leaning towards the show businesses was not totally far-fetched. Her dad had once won an Emmy for being a lighting director for "Married With Children." Her mother is a psychotherapist and a yoga instructor, and she had been seen with the actress during the Invictus Games in Toronto. Meghan's dad frequents Mexico, and he has two children with his first wife.

Meghan's parents divorced when she was still young, though she revealed that the co-parenting made her feel she was loved. Her parents met at the set of a show in Los Angeles, where Ragland was a 21-year-old makeup artist and Thomas, a 33-year-old lighting director. The two exchanged vows in December 1979, and their bundle of joy, Meghan, or Rachel Meghan Markle, came in their lives on Aug. 4, 1981.

The two half-siblings of Meghan are Yvonne (who changed her name to Samantha), 53, and Thomas Jr., 51. Yvonne had sparked controversy when she claimed that the fiancée of the prince was narcissistic and a social climber, though she retracted her statement days after it was picked up by the media. She claimed that she was misquoted.

Meanwhile, Meghan's half-brother had been saying nothing but praise for her, though he was embroiled in a controversy that had the drunk Thomas Jr. pointing a gun at his girlfriend's head.
