"EVE Online" players will be sure to get plenty of space, as "Project Aurora," the mobile spinoff of the massively multiplayer online game roleplaying game (MMORPG), has been confirmed.
Developer CCP Games has just announced on Oct. 5 that their long-running MMORPG "EVE Online" will now be getting a smartphone version. No exact name has been announced, but the version is codenamed "Project Aurora." Essentially a pocket version of the MMORPG, "Project Aurora" will feature all of the things players can do in its PC counterpart, albeit more refined and streamlined for mobile devices.
The project is also allegedly being co-developed by Playraven, which Touch Arcade described as a studio of good repute when it comes to mobile games. "Project Aurora" will involve players repairing jump gates in-game by collecting relics, with a goal of getting to the center of the galaxy. Players expecting the mobile version to be an extension of the full PC game will be disappointed, however, as the two experiences will be separate and not interchangeable.
Still, "Project Aurora" will allow players to do most of what they can do in "EVE Online" such as maintaining space stations which act as spacecraft hubs, doing research, building fleets, and waging wars. Like its PC MMORPG counterpart, "Project Aurora" is also described by its developers as a vibrant and sandbox MMO experience where players can make their own stories.
"In 'Project Aurora,' players must work together to dominate the center of the galaxy, and become the most powerful corporation in the universe. 'Project Aurora' will be a massively multiplayer mobile universe, filled with epic player stories," according to the developers.
The said player-created stories are one of the selling points of "EVE Online," where players can form religions in-game, as well as a massive virtual space battle, equivalent to $200,000 worth of real-life money. This deep and complex world that allows players to make the above possible is what the developers aspire for "Project Aurora."
Space voyagers may have to wait a while though before they can experience "EVE Online" on their mobile devices, as there is currently no set release date yet for "Project Aurora."
