According to the synopsis, the premiere episode will see the skies of Earth being frozen by a mysterious alien force, and Clara will need the Doctor. But it looks like the time traveler is hiding as he's nowhere to be found. As his past actions come to haunt him, the Doctor will come face to face with an old enemy, and it looks as if survival will be impossible for the Doctor and Clara.

In new promo stills uploaded on the show's official Facebook site, it looks like the Doctor will be having some fun, with him entering a medieval fight looking very much like a rock star in a black coat, checkered pants, dark sunglasses, and an electric guitar. An alien is also seen in the photos, and it looks like the Doctor will have to deal with him in the arena. The Doctor's old nemesis, Missy, is also seen talking to Clara, and Clara will find herself embarking on a dangerous quest to bring her friend back.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Capaldi said that the Doctor is throwing caution to the wind and is intent on having fun in the new season.

"He's in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense that he's running from something, that even he does not yet understand," said Capaldi.

For those in the UK, 'Doctor Who' season 9 premiere can be watched online via live stream through the BBC iPlayer.
