The new season of "Doctor Who" promises double the fun for fans, as season 9 will start off with a two-part episode, and all throughout the season's 12-episode run, there will be more two-parters that will give viewers a cinematic experience.
According to the show's official blog on the BBC One website, the premiere will see the return of the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman). This time around, fans should expect to witness the normally stoic Doctor and his human companion having a bit more fun in upcoming episodes.
Capaldi told the website that the two realize that they are the luckiest people in the whole universe and "are hell-bent on adventure." The actor said that his character will be "in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way."
The two-episode premiere will start with "The Magician's Apprentice" and will be followed by "The Witch's Familiar." Actress Michelle Gomez will reprise her role as Missy, and showrunner Steven Moffat said that she'll be back to cause some trouble for the Doctor and Clara in the series opening. Her return will also bring back something that the duo never expected because, according to The Daily Star, Missy is the regenerated form of the Master.
Aside from several two-parters, season 9 will also reportedly feature one episode which will show the Doctor by himself, with no other people around.
One episode that fans are certainly looking forward to is "The Girl Who Died," which is the fifth in the upcoming season. Maisie Williams, known for playing Arya Stark in "Game of Thrones," is guest starring in the episode, although Moffatt is keeping mum about her role on the show.
And while the Doctor and Clara are intent on having fun in the new season, Capaldi told The Daily Star that at one point, the two must face the consequences of their adventures.
"They can't have a good time for too long. They have to pay," said the actor.
Season 9 of "Doctor Who" premieres on Saturday, Sept. 19, on BBC One.
