According to reports, the doctor's former companion will return to the Christmas special. Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), who served as season 9 and 10's companion, might be back later this year. Rumors about Coleman's return started circulating when reports indicated that Eddie's Diner, the retro diner from season 6 and 9, has been booked for filming.

A "Doctor Who" fan took to Twitter to reveal the information. "Eddie's Diner got booked by the BBC for filming in July for 2 days. Clara Oswald return? Or just another scene there," he announced in a tweet.

While some fans are still having doubts on the possibility of a "Doctor Who" scene, the Twitter user is convinced that the Diner was specifically booked for the said series. He wrote to a follower, "Given the fact that my friend asked the owner about Doctor Who and did his DOCTOR WHO photos in the Diner, I'm sure that he means Doctor Who." When probed for more details, he answered, "I only got the date of July... No specific date was given."

To note, the 11th doctor, who was portrayed by Matt Smith, visited the diner in season 6, in an episode titled "The Impossible Astronaut." Meanwhile, in the season 9 finale, it was revealed that Clara and Me's (Maisie Williams) Tardis was fashioned from Eddie's Diner.

Aside from Capaldi, showrunner Steven Moffat will bid the show adieu after the 2017 Christmas special.

Coleman's return to "Doctor Who" has yet to be confirmed. Hence, fans of the franchise should treat the latest reports as speculations until proven otherwise.

More importantly, BBC has not announced Capaldi's successor, the 13th doctor. Updates should arrive in the following months.
