Chris Brown was scheduled to appear on "The Daily Show" on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to promote his new album, but the singer was noticeably absent from the talk show and was instead replaced by another star. According to reports, it wasn't the star's decision to skip the show but apparently, the talk show's staff was divided on whether to let the "Ayo" singer be on the show because of past issues.
According to the Daily Beast, some staffers of "The Daily Show" told the website that Brown's interview has become a cause for concern, and host Trevor Noah had allegedly planned to use the interview to put the spotlight on domestic abuse issues.
Noah is no stranger to this, as his own mother was a victim of domestic abuse and according to Variety, the host's ex-stepfather abused his mother and threatened to kill him when Noah was very young. But due to concerns from the staff, things reportedly did not go on as planned and Nick Cannon was brought on at the last minute instead.
Brown's personal life has been under much scrutiny ever since he assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna back in February 2009, a day before the Grammy Awards. The "Umbrella" singer was left with facial injuries that required hospitalization. Brown was charged with felony assault and was sentenced to community labor, five years formal probation, and domestic violence counseling.
Due to his assault on Rihanna, Brown was refused entry into the U.K. in 2010, and recently, his December tour in New Zealand and Australia was canceled. Back in September, it was reported that the Australian government warned that it had plans to formally deny the singer a visa because of his criminal conviction for assaulting Rihanna.
Brown's promoter issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that the singer's shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and in Auckland, New Zealand have been canceled, saying that the singer and promoters "remain positive that the tour will take place in the near future."
Brown has yet to speak out about his canceled appearance on "The Daily Show," but a Comedy Central spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter that they hope to rebook Brown in the future.
