During the season 3 finale of "Chicago Fire," it was revealed that Dawson (Monica Raymund) was pregnant and at first, this seemed to be an inconvenience because her relationship with Casey (Jesse Spencer) was on shaky ground at the time. In season 4, the two decided to go through with the pregnancy and raise the baby together, but last week, the two lost their baby as Dawson had a miscarriage.

Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Matt Olmstead said that instead of tearing them apart, the tragedy will bring Dawson and Casey closer together.

"It's a bit of a reset for their relationship," said Olmstead. "They're still a couple, and we have storylines coming up that are going to further galvanize them as a couple."

Olmstead revealed that the two will be coping with the loss of their baby in different ways. For Dawson, she will find comfort in the fact that she still has a job. Meanwhile, Casey will be standing by her side while letting her do what she needs to do and supporting her through this difficult time.

"[Casey is] hovering a little bit, letting her do her thing. He lets her get through the process and is there for her in the end," said Olmstead.

Raymund spoke to Hollywoodlife and said that the tragedy will make the couple "cling closer together."

"It really brings us together because anytime a couple deals with trauma it will bring them closer together," she said.

As for other members of the team, Olmstead said that Severide (Taylor Kinney) will be facing a dilemma at work since he still hasn't gotten his lieutenantship back. The producer said that Severide will be asking himself if he needs to "play dirty" to keep his job and potentially ascend, or if he stays honest and risks getting demoted again. There will also be a new romance as Chili (Dora Madison) and Jimmy (Steven R. McQueen) continue their flirtation and the two will be getting cozy in future episodes.

"Chicago Fire" airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
