Catastrophe reaches cute proportions, as "Cat Sorter," a virtual reality (VR) game about fixing problematic cats, is now available for purchase.
Developed and published by indie company Pawmigo Games, "Cat Sorter" allows players to segregate cats in a conveyor belt, all in an immersive first-person VR mode. Players will have to separate the "defective" cats from the perfect cats. The defective cats in the game have body parts from several different creatures, some of which are obviously not from cats. These body parts include dragon wings, stilted legs, beaks instead of snouts, and more.
The said cats must be ushered into a vacuum to be isolated, but players are also given the option to throw the imperfect cats into a basketball loop for extra points. While that may sound like animal cruelty to some, PC Gamer assured readers that the developer's intentions are good and that "Cat Sorter" is a delightful experience.
A VR launch trailer shows how the game plays out in VR mode, and it also reveals players customizing the cats to their liking. "Cat Sorter" was explicitly designed for the VR with families in mind, and it even has adjustable heights for children of all ages.
While "Cat Sorter" may be cute, its system requirements are rather steep. Players and cat-lovers wanting to experience the immersion of the game will need at least an operating system of Windows 7 or later, an Intel Core i5 central processing unit (CPU) that runs at 2.8 gigahertz (GHz) or its Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) equivalent, and 8 gigabytes (GB) of random access memory (RAM).
To be able to fully render the VR environment, the most important part of a VR gaming system, the graphics processing unit (GPU) will have to be an Nvidia GTX 980Ti, which was Nvidia's most powerful consumer GPU in 2015. No AMD equivalent for the GPU was recommended by the developers, unfortunately.
Thankfully, the game only requires 2 GB of hard disk space. Apart from this, players are also advised to prepare a minimum room area of 2.5 to 3 meters to avoid real-life collisions.
"Cat Sorter" is now available for the PC through Steam and will require either an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive.
