Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie features, release date with Nexus 10 2 and Nexus 5 [Rumors]

Google's upcoming mobile operating system, the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, may be released alongside the Nexus 5 slated for a release later this fall.

Google's next big OS upgrade will be the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, and the tech-giant will likely time the new release with one of their own hardware products.

The Key Lime Pie OS may be introduced at Google's Android BBQ conference in Texas, according to Digital Journal. The tech giant is expected to unveil the Nexus 5 smartphone and Nexus 10 2 tablet at the two-day event.

The latest version of Android Jelly Bean 4.3 was released July 24, with updates to features such as Bluetooth Low Energy support, Bluetooth Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) 1.3 support, 4K resolution support, bug fixes and many security/performance enhancements.

The release of Android 4.3 last months means that Android 5.0 will not be released for at least a few more months.

Google has not announced an official release date, but Android fans speculate that it may come as soon as October 2013. Google will be celebrating Android's fifth birthday in October, which has led some to believe they will celebrate the date with the release of their next generation OS.

The Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie could come with features such as Google Babel, which would unify various popular messaging options such as Talk, Voice, SMS, Gmail and others into one service.

Key Lime Pie update could include Samsung Orb for the camera, which is software to create a panoramic photo across 360 degrees. However, this is software from Samsung software, which means this feature may only be provided on Samsung devices. This feature is already being used by Google device users, called Photosphere.

Another addition to the Android upgrade is expected to be a revamped keyboard, making the typing experience smoother and smarter. The swipe-typing technology is expected to be vastly improved.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is set to be among the devices set to receive the 5.0 Key Lime Pie update when it is released.
