Android 4.4 KitKat release date for Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3 by end of January; S3, Note 2 update expected in March

The Android 4.4 KitKat software is continuing to roll out to devices this year.

HTC has already confirmed that its flagship HTC One phone will be receiving the software update on all major U.S. carriers by the end of January.

LG rolled out the Android 4.4 software to some LG G2 users in Korea last month, but it turned out to be just a sample update and not all users received it. It is expected to roll out in mass this month, but exact dates for international models have not been confirmed.

All Nexus devices, including the Nexus 4, 5, and 7 were the first to receive the Android updates, followed by non-Nexus Google Play Edition smartphones. The Moto X, G and Droid lines also received the update last month.

Samsung has yet to release an official update schedule for the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 and Note 2 devices. The only Samsung device to have received an update is the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition.

However, according to an update timeline leaked by iTechAddict, updates for some of the latest Galaxy S4 and Note 3 devices may come this January, while the update for the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 may be available around March.

French carrier SFR also announced that Galaxy S4 and Note 3 owners will receive the update by the end of January.

However, for those who want to update their Galaxy S3 device with the Android 4.4 through a custom ROM can do so by following instructions here. This ROM update is available for those owning the GT-i9300 version of the smartphone.
