Producer of "Prometheus" Ridley Scott brings into theaters a movie that opened in 34 international markets and garnered an impressive profit within its first few days. "Alien: Covenant" is a sequel to 2012's "Prometheus" and the first of three possible prequels for Scott's 1979 film "Alien."

According to Box Office Mojo, "Alien: Covenant" has managed to rake in $42 million in its recent international premiere. It was at the top in 19 of the 34 markets, including South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Spain and Hong Kong. "Alien: Covenant" will open for the rest of the world on May 19.

Compared to "Prometheus," "Alien: Covenant" performed underwhelmingly. Reviews revealed that something was off about the dialogue despite the thrilling action scenes of the science fiction film.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Scott admitted that he went wrong with "Prometheus" and that this sequel is an attempt to redeem it.

"The fans, in a funny kind of way — they're not the final word — but they are the reflection of your doubts about something," said Scott. "And then you realize 'I was wrong' or 'I was right.' I think that's where it comes in. I think you're not sensible if you don't actually take [the fans' reaction] into account."

"Alien: Covenant" features the crew of a colony ship carrying an estimated 2,000 colonists to take over a remote planet. Although they do discover something like paradise in their supposed destination, it quickly turns downward when the crew is faced with a threat well beyond what their imagination could ever come up with. "Alien: Covenant" is a two-hour long film about the crew's fight for survival, as is the usual for Scott's films.

"Inglorious Basterds" actor Michael Fassbender plays the protagonist Walter while "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" actress Katherine Waterston plays Daniels, a female officer who seems to be the only one capable of rational thought.

"Alien: Covenant" will be available in all countries on May 19.
