"13 Reasons Why," the most tweeted about TV series of 2017, is back for another season. Considering that the entire premise of the story was to show why Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) killed herself, there are a lot of questions about what should fans expect from the second season of "13 Reason Why."
Given that the show has already been able to show the content of the 13 tapes that Hannah recorded to explain why she decided to commit suicide, many fans are speculated that "13 Reasons Why" would no longer be renewed for a second season. Others also stated that it would be a moot point to continue the Netflix original series.
Although the show did reveal the content of the 13 tapes, showrunner Brian Yorkey's interview with Entertainment Weekly reveals that "13 Reasons Why" is far from over.
"I have heard from a number of people, "Well, we heard all her tapes so her story is done.' That's leaving aside the fact that for every tape there's another person who has a story, which is the person Hannah mentions on her tape. We saw Hannah's version of events unfold, but there's a lot more to be told also about those characters. To me, there's a tremendous amount that I still want to know," he said.
Contrary to most fan theories, the show will continue on to portray all sides of the story that matters. The goal of "13 Reasons Why" is to show the many aspects of society and the behavior of people that can contribute to someone's decision to end their life. Hannah will still be part of season 2 but her story will not be the only one that the Netflix original series will focus on.
All the cliffhangers and unanswered questions of the first season will be woven to create a wholesome picture of the past and the present.
"I think that we would really sort of just try to continue to tell the story of these characters as truthfully and as wholly as we could. We certainly wouldn't shy away from anything, but neither would we go out of our way to respond in any way to what's been said about the show," Yorkey told Vanity Fair.
"13 Reasons Why" has been criticized for the apparent romanticizing of the rape that Hannah suffered. Because of that and the ending of season 1, which conveniently left Bryce (Justin Prentice) with his freedom, many thought that it would be better to let the show end.
But now that Yorkey has spoken up about the Netflix original series, it seems that fans can expect a satisfying punishment for Hannah's rapist.
"13 Reasons Why" season 2 is expected to air on Netflix in 2018.
