Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards have been engaged for quite some time now, and while the couple still has to get started on planning their wedding, they have reportedly taken a huge step in their relationship and has bought a $4.6 million house together.

The house, located just outside of London, reportedly has six bedrooms and five bathrooms and was previously owned by a famous Premier League football star.

According to the Daily Mail's insiders, the couple's investment is a way of proving "how serious they are" about each other, after the Little Mix singer was accused of being the reason why Malik quit One Direction earlier this year.

A source told The Sun that the purchase is a big milestone in the couple's relationship.

"This is a big statement by Perrie and Zayn. They've had to shoot down rumors of a split after his exit from the band and this is both of them showing everyone how serious they are," said the insider, adding that the couple needs a place that they can both call home.

The couple was first seen checking out the property in Welwyn, Hertfordshire in March, and the two are currently living together in London.

In an interview with OK! Magazine last month, Edwards said that it was Malik's decision to leave the band and that she was there to support him "100 per cent" whatever it was that he decided to do.

Edwards took a big hit from One Direction fans when she was dubbed as the "modern day Yoko Ono" and she was cited as the reason why Malik left the boy band. In a recent interview on Britain's "This Morning," Edwards shared that quitting the band was "one of his hardest decisions ever."

When asked by host Phillip Schofield how her fiancé is doing since leaving the band, Edwards said, "He's very good, thank you. I think he's just chilling out getting some head space."
