'Yakuza 6' news: Devs mistakenly release full game as free demo

It seems the developers of "Yakuza 6" are a lot more generous than the group of people they made games about, as they accidentally released the full game as a free demo, making it available for everyone for free before the official release date.

The demo for "Yakuza 6: The Song of Life" was supposed to be released earlier in the week following the release delay announcement that the developers did for the full game. Instead, the 36 gigabyte (GB) free demo which PlayStation 4 (PS4) owners acquired from the PlayStation Store was actually a full game, hence the size.

The size was intentional, however, since players were supposed to unlock the full game on release if they bought it or preordered, though for some reason, players were able to unlock it to full. This happened to the demo versions uploaded in North America, where the restriction after the demo has ended was not in place, giving the players full access to the game. Basically, "Yakuza 6: The Song of Life" was made available to everyone in the United States for free.

This was short-lived though since the demo was immediately pulled-out from the PlayStation Store of the US with an accompanying apology from Sega, the game's license owner and publisher. Sega took to Twitter and announced, "We apologize, but have had to remove the Yakuza 6: The Song of Life demo from the PlayStation Store. We are as upset as you are, and had hoped to have this demo available for everyone today. We discovered that some were able to use the demo to unlock the full game."

So far, Sega has not yet commented further on the issue and has not announced yet on what they plan to do to rectify the damage. Sadly, no free demo will be available for U.S. players of the game, the release of "Yakuza 6: The Song of Life" is still a few months away at Apr. 17, meaning there could still be a way for them to test the game for free depending on Sega. In the meantime, the best U.S. players can do is to wait for a rescheduled free demo or in the worst case scenario, the game's full release.
