'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' release date, plot news: Skrulls rumored to appear

The alien race is set to make an appearance in the Dark Phoenix storyline of  20th Century Fox's "X-Men" cinematic universe. Marvel

An alien race may be featured in "X-Men: Dark Phoenix." Several reports are swirling that the Skrulls will be making their silver screen debut vie 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" franchise. "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" will make a time jump. It will be set in the 1990s and will focus on one of its most iconic storylines.

According to Universo X-Men, the movie will be introducing Marvel's shape-shifting alien race known as the Skrulls. This exclusive piece of information comes from a reported description in one of the movie's sequences.

The said sequence purportedly features Professor X, played by James McAvoy; Magneto, portrayed by Michael Fassbender; Cyclops, played by Tye Sheridan; and Jean Grey, played by Sophie Turner. They will be attending a U.N. debate only to be blindsided by an attack from an alien race, said to be a Skrulls invasion.

While the rumored appearance of the Skrulls might not seem rock solid, Universo X-Men was pretty on target with their previous scene descriptions for "X-Men: Apocalypse." So, their new report may still hold some weight. If their information is found to be true, this will be the first appearance of the alien race in the live-action franchise even if it's only a minor role.

The Skrulls are one of the few Fox properties that could jumpstart the "X-Men" franchise and introduce other intergalactic storylines. With the introduction of the Skrulls, the other alien race connected to "X-Men: Dark Phoenix's" storyline, the Shi'ar, still remains unclear as it could shift the franchise's focus.

With the "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" title's revelation, movie and comic fans will be interested to see a new iteration of Jean Grey's descent into the Dark Phoenix. The Dark Phoenix storyline has been done before with "X-Men: The Last Stand" with critics and fans panning the film and landing in several worst ranked "X-Men" films lists.

"X-Men: Dark Phoenix" is set to hit theaters on Nov. 2, 2018
