"Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus" players are in for a surprise, as the newest downloadable content (DLC) for the first-person shooter is a teaser for even more DLCs.

Developer MachineGames and publisher Bethesda Softworks have released the game's first DLC, called "The Freedom Chronicles: Episode Zero." The DLC serves as a prologue for three other episodes of "The Freedom Chronicles" slated for the game's near future. It is worth noting that Episode Zero is actually just additional content of the pre-order bonuses for the game, but it is also included for those who bought the Season Pass for the FPS.

Players expecting more content for the game may get disappointed, as the DLC is first and foremost just a teaser for the remaining three official ones. Because of this, the quality and the production value of Episode Zero is noticeably lower than that seen in the base game. Still, the DLC serves as a pilot for new characters to be introduced in the game so players can familiarize themselves with the additions come the three main DLCs.

These characters are incorporated in the sequence of three short missions, altogether lasting for less than an hour of play time. Despite the DLC being a paid content with new additions, PC Gamer seems to think that it may as well have been a part of the main game due to how lackluster it is and how minimal its offerings are compared to the usual DLC content.

The DLC is told as a series of stories written by resistance members fighting against the Nazis occupying an alternate-timeline America. Players will then be able to step into the shoes of the three characters in the story and experience what they went through as per the DLC's story.

The characters are Joseph Stallion, a former American football player turned resistance fighter whose name is a wordplay of communist leader Joseph Stalin's, Jessica Valiant, a former British spy hunting a specific Nazi and a film star, and Captain Gerald Wilkins, a commando infiltrating Alaska to destroy a Nazi superweapon.

"Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus - The Freedom Chronicles: Episode Zero" is available now for those who pre-ordered and bought the Season Pass.
