Why are Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar telling men to be 'uncommen'?

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, the heads of the family in the cancelled reality TV show "19 Kids and Counting," are promoting a new initiative that calls on men to be "uncommen."

According to the Duggar Family Blog, "Uncommen" is a movement that "exists to encourage men to be better leaders, husbands, and dads by equipping individuals and organisations with inspiring educational resources."

With 19 kids in tow, Jim Bob and Michelle understand what it truly means to be a parent. However, the two acknowledged that parenting gets even more difficult as life gets more and more hectic.

"But in today's world, I'll tell you what is so difficult—staying connected with your kids and making sure you spend time with them. Because life is so busy, and it's so easy to lose connection with your kids. So we encourage you to be the dad that you should be. We challenge you to be 'uncommen,'" says Jim Bob.

It is important for the Christian couple to stay connected with their kids and purposefully get to know each and every one of them. However, their eldest son Josh broke their hearts last year when hackers exposed his secret—that he was actually living a double life. The Duggar family, not to mention the rest of the world, learned how he cheated his wife Anna using the Ashley Madison adultery website.

"As parents we are so deeply grieved by our son's decisions and actions," the couple wrote in a statement. "His wrong choices have deeply hurt his precious wife and children and have negatively affected so many others. He has also brought great insult to the values and faith we hold dear. For him it will be a long journey toward wholeness and recovery. We pray that in this he comes to complete repentance and sincere change."
