When is Father's Day 2017 in USA?

Every year, aside from having to face the continuously changing political climate and the seemingly worsening standards of living and quality of life, humans all over the world spend at least two days honoring their parents. The end of Mother's Day in May signals that it's time to honor the fathers on that ever-ambiguous date.

Like Mother's Day, Father's Day does not have a specific date but it is often celebrated every third Sunday of June. This year, it is set to be on June 18. As one would expect from a capitalist world, this is when things like men's underwear go on sale and there are promos about bringing one's father to a specific restaurant. The date is near and it's about time to think about what the first superhero of one's life deserves to have for a gift.

Before going online to shop for what dads usually need, here are a few fun facts that CNN shared in preparation for Father's Day. First, Father's Day originated from when Sonora Louise Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington wanted to honor her father, William Jackson Smart, a single parent who raised six wonderful children. Decades after the first celebration, presidents of the United States sought to officially proclaim it is a celebration set for the third Sunday of June.

Each family is different and there are times when children find themselves without the comforting presence of a father. In those cases, some cultures and families allow for the celebration of the mother, who was able to stand in for both the roles of each parent. Other cultures do not uphold it as much as other countries. Regardless, honoring one's father on this special day shouldn't end when the celebration is over.

Father's Day can be spent in the mall or over dinner. What matters is that one remembers the special role that their fathers played in their lives.

When is Father's Day for Americans? June 18.
