'Twin Peaks' revival news, release date: Original cast members join 'Twin Peaks' revival series

The hit crime drama series of the 90s is back, along with a familiar set of faces. "Twin Peaks" picks up 25 years after the events of the original series.

"Twin Peaks" premieres on May 21 on Showtime. Showtime

As revealed in the trailer of "Twin Peaks, Harry Goaz will be back as Deputy Andy Brennan and Kimmy Robertson as the receptionist Lucy Moran. In addition, the late Miguel Ferrer is seen in the trailer playing Agent Albert Rosenfield. Joining them this season are Kyle MacLachlan as Agent Cooper and Sheryl Lee as Laura Palmer. Last but not the least, David Lynch is back as Agent Gordon Cole.

The clip says so little about the revival of the series, except for revealing a few familiar faces. Like the original series, the plot of the upcoming season is shrouded in mystery. The cast and crew of "Twin Peaks" have been asked to remain tight-lipped about the season until it ends in September.

When asked to reveal a few plot details, Lynch tells The Hollywood Reporter, "It comes from my own personal desire to not know anything before I see a film." According to the actor, he intends to "experience it in a pure way and be taken into a world, letting it go where it takes you." Although Lynch is obligated to keep mum about its details, he seems to be genuinely engrossed with the season, and intends to keep audiences from being spoiled.

He further tells the publication, "It's very precious, and the more you know, it sort of takes away from that full experience."

The pilot season of Showtime's "Twin Peaks" is directed solely by Lynch. The season has a total of 18 episodes. The premiere of "Twin Peaks" is a two-hour-long episode slated to air this Sunday, May 21, at 9 p.m. EDT on Showtime.

More updates should arrive soon.
