Christians spend months preparing for the celebration of Christ's birth for Christmas but his resurrection deserves just as much respect and celebration, the managing editor of the Gospel Project said recently in a post.
According to Trevin Wax, who heads the Lifeway Resources project, Christians should place equal importance to Easter as they do with Christmas since they are equal milestones in the life of Jesus Christ.
"Why do we spend an entire season of the year thinking about and celebrating Christmas, but just a weekend thinking about and celebrating the impact of the resurrection. Both Christmas and Easter are celebrations of massive significance for Christians, but we've made one last so much longer than the other. It seems like we're cheating Easter by not giving it a whole season of our attention, " he said.
Wax said families can make the celebration of Easter a season by making Easter traditions with the family such as reading the Scriptures together through the Holy Week and engage in activities that focussing on the new life inherent in Christ's resurrection instead of confining the activities to Easter Sunday.
He wrote that bonding over Easter music can also be a fun activity that will inspire reflection over Jesus' death and new life.
Sharing the Easter story more often, even beyond the season, will also give Christians a better grasp of the weight of Christ's sacrifice for mankind which will in turn inspire a better understanding of its impact on one's life, he contends.
Mary Green of the St. Joseph Educational Center, agreed, and said that Easter can be celebrated everyday by spreading its meaning even beyond the observance of Lent.
"The joys of Jesus' resurrection are just too great to contemplate and celebrate only for one day! After the resurrection, Jesus spent time with his disciples and sent them on a mission — to preach the good news. We are entrusted with this same mission and we witness to the resurrection whenever we bring joy, grace, faith and love to the world," she said.
