'Total War' news: 'Empire Divided' expansion gets teased

It seems the expansions for "Total War: Rome 2" were not built in a day, as the developers of the game have just announced another follow-up content to the 2013 game.

Four years after the release of "Rome 2," Creative Assembly, the developers, have just revealed that the "Empire Divided" downloadable content (DLC) is now in the works. The new DLC will tackle the most troubled era of the Roman Empire, 270 AD, where the once great Mediterranean conquerors were beset on all sides by enemies, experienced an economic crisis, saw the rise of Christianity, and dealt with slave revolts.

Much of the colonies of the Roman Empire during this time were at tremendous amounts of unrest, making use of every opportunity to secede, cripple, or even take over the empire. This is why the DLC will place a heavy responsibility upon the players to defy actual history and restore Rome to its former glory, if only digitally.

Should the players want to oversee or hasten the downfall of the empire instead, they can choose to play a different faction than Rome, either as one of its enemies or a neutral kingdom. Players can opt to play one of the 10 factions in the DLC.

New victory conditions are also featured, and these may be different from the usual "decimate the enemies" and "conquer everything" objectives from the base game, though this has not been detailed yet. Additionally, new campaign features such as plagues, bandits, and cults are also included. Fans can expect that these new mechanics will remain faithful to the portrayed 3rd century AD time period.

In addition to the new content, 2013's "Total War: Rome 2" will also be getting a major overhaul in the campaign's political system, where the developers may make it more robust along with an equally competent artificial intelligence (AI) to make the political power play more interesting and useful to the game. This may set the stage for government reforms, more fleshed-out slave revolts, civil wars, and coup d'états among Roman generals.

"Total War: Rome 2 - Empire Divided" is set to be released on Nov. 30 and is only available for the PC.
