Just three days after cancelling "Timeless," NBC reversed its decision and announced that the time-travelling drama will return for season 2.

Series creator Eric Kripke announced the network's decision to un-cancel the show on Twitter, stating that the series will be back for another 10 episodes for its sophomore season. He initially claimed the second season premiere will air next summer, but corrected himself later on and said that it will instead air in 2018.

"Timeless" centers on the adventures of history professor Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer), Master Sergeant Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter), and computer programmer Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett) who are tasked to capture Garcia Flynn (Goran Višnjić), the ex-NSA asset who stole the experimental time machine and wants to change the American history.

In an interview with Variety, NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt explained the reason why they opted to change the fate of the show. According to the network executive, they just cannot ignore the fans' strong demands to save the series from cancellation.

On the other hand, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salker also reveals they simply chose to bring it back. "We love the show, we just said let's figure out a way to bring it back." Salke adds, "We proposed something, they accepted and 40 minutes later Shawn and Eric were tweeting about it."

Aside from Timeless, the network also renewed other series like "The Blacklist," "Law & Order: SVU," "Taken," "Blindspot," "Chicago Fire," "Chicago PD," "Chicago Med," "Shades of Blue," "Superstore," "Great News," "The Good Place," and two seasons of "This Is Us" for its next installments.

On the other hand, NBC also announced the cancellation of "Emerald City," "The Blacklist: Redemption," and "Powerless."

The network is expected to reveal more information about the premiere and plot of "Timeless" for its upcoming sophomore season.
