"The Originals" is gearing up for its third season on The CW. The premiere promises to be filled with a lot of drama and action as the Mikaelson brothers continue to be at odds with one another while the rest of the group tracks down a serial killer in the Big Easy.
In the synopsis for the premiere episode titled "For the Next Millennium," the episode will pick up with a time jump of a few months after the season 2 finale. Freya (Riley Voelkel) will be thinking of ways to fix Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah's (Daniel Gillies) relationship. Meanwhile, Klaus becomes suspicious when he learns that an old vampire friend named Lucien has arrived in New Orleans, and the vampire has a mysterious agenda involving the Mikaelson's remaining sire lines. As Elijah questions whether he can forgive his brother for everything that he has done, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) tries to cope while she stays in her wolf form in the bayou.
As for the others, Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) and Cami (Leah Pipes) will be helping Detective Kinney (Jason Dohring) after a series of gruesome murder, which makes them think that they might be tracking a serial killer. And Marcel, (Charles Michael Davis) having regained control of the French Quarter, tries out a new plan to recruit vampires, while Davina (Danielle Campbell) makes a decision that will result in a big feud between her and Marcel.
The third season of the CW show will also feature new additions to the cast. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Trinity—a group of vampires sired by the Mikaelson siblings—are going to show up in New Orleans and will contribute to the growing discord between Elijah and Klaus. Show runner Julie Plec told EW that though the Trinity will result in more conflict between the brothers, "there is room for these new people to try to get in between them."
"Elijah's point is, 'Maybe they should get between us because every time I've stood by you it has failed spectacularly'," said Plec.
"The Originals" season 3 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
