'Stranger Things' season 3 renewed or canceled? A time jump and the Mind Flayer's next move

With the arrival and success of the second season of "Stranger Things," it's not impossible that a third season is already in the works.

Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the gang will surely be back for the show's third season. Series creators, The Duffer Brothers, have confirmed that they are planning a time jump similar to what they did in season 2 to give way for the young actors' growth spurts. As such, season 3 might take a year and a half to make its reappearance.

While Eleven severed Will's (Noah Schnapp) connection to the Mind Flayer, the actor thinks that there's still Upside Down residue that resides within him. On the other hand, the Duffer Brothers suggested otherwise, emphasizing that the Mind Flayer might take a break. At the same time, they hinted that there might be others who have the Mind Flayer's bits within them.

With Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) finding themselves covered with stuff from the Upside Down at different points in the show, the next season might touch on these effects and see if the two develop their own "now-memories" and are able to access the Upside Down the same way Will used to.

As the kids from the show grow up, so will their characters. The return of Eleven and her developing romance with Mike (Finn Wolfhard) is something to look forward to in the show's third season. It might focus on how their budding love story can affect the entire group's dynamics as the show moves forward.

Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy in the show, hopes that the third season will feature more "bada** things" for her character who always jumps into danger headfirst.

The biggest question concerning the show is possibly how the Mind Flayer will move in the third season. With its portal now sealed, how will the creature be able to get out and terrorize the citizens of Hawkins? The Duffer Brothers teased that the Mind Flayer will be more aggressive now that it's trapped in the Upside Down and its interest in Eleven and her powers will grow.

"Stranger Things" seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Netflix.
