Star Wars Han Solo movie plot rumors: Executives expecting movie to disappoint

It seems Han Solo's solo outing in the "Star Wars" franchise could be in trouble, as there have been rumors saying that Disney might be expecting the character's standalone movie to be a box office failure.

An anonymous source from Screen Geek has revealed that the executives at Disney seem to be preparing for the movie to disappoint, whether in the box office or critics remains to be seen. "Disney is bracing themselves for the Han Solo movie to bomb. They were worried about it before all 'The Last Jedi controversy,' but now they're essentially writing Solo off. The lead actor, Alden Ehrenreich, can't act, and they had a dialogue coach on hand for all of his scenes. On top of that, the script is unworkable. It's going to be a car crash," said the source.

This could mean that there are a lot more problems in the production than Disney lets on. Movie Web has somewhat confirmed the existence of Ehrenreich's acting coach, so the speculation that his acting skills are not up to par for a young Solo might not be too far-fetched. Still, it could also mean that there was just a casting mistake and does not necessarily paint Ehrenreich as a bad actor.

The so-called "unworkable" script is speculated to have been caused by changes in direction. Fans will recall that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired, so much of the movie had to be re-written and re-shot by Ron Howard in order to try to salvage what had become of it.

Still, website The Mary Sue suggested that this could all be just Disney trying to condition fans and viewers that Solo's movie is expected to be bad in order for them to be surprised. If that's the case, this sort of publicity for the film might just save it, as people who line up to see how bad the movie is may ultimately come out of the theatre liking it. That said, banking on such a ploy may be quite unreliable for such a big company.

Fans will be able to see if the movie is really bad or good once "Solo: A Star Wars Story" gets released on May 25, 2018.
