'Spider-Man: Homecoming' release date, plot news: Peter Parker struggles to keep superhero identity a secret, new clip reveals

At the 2017 MTV Awards, Marvel launched an extended trailer for the upcoming addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), "Spider-Man: Homecoming." The trailer shows how the teenage vigilante struggles with being a secret avenger.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" stars Tom Holland,  Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, among others. Facebook/SpiderManMovie

The clip revealed at the 2017 MTV Awards shows Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) slowly making his way to his bedroom in their flat. His stealth, however, does not go unnoticed. When he enters his bedroom, he is shocked to find a friend, Ned, sitting on his bed, frozen from what he had just seen.

"You're the Spider-Man, from YouTube," Ned utters. Before the young hero could deny, Ned adds, "You were on the ceiling."

Peter seems keen on protecting his superhero identity, but he struggles and ultimately fails to do so, as revealed in the previous trailer of the film. After Peter denies being Spider-Man, he tells his friend that he got his suit from Iron Man and that he is basically part of the Avengers.

Ned is in Peter's bedroom because they plan on building the Lego Death Star together. This is the second reference to the "Star Wars" franchise. In "Civil War," Holland makes a reference to "Empire Strikes Back."

Tom Holland made his debut as Spider-Man in "Captain America: Civil War," wherein he is recruited by the billionaire playboy philanthropist Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). The film, however, will delve deeper into the titular character's story. More importantly, it will establish his part in the "Avengers," as well as in the MCU.

Joining Holland in "Spider-Man" are Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Zendaya as Mary Jane, Laura Harrier as Liz Allan, and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson.

Holland is slated to appear in the next "Avengers" film titled "Infinity War." He will star alongside Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Christ Pratt as Star-Lord.

More updates should arrive soon.
