Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber had an on-off relationship since they began dating in 2010, but last December, the two appeared to have finally called it quits, and Gomez started dating DJ Zedd earlier this year while Bieber had been linked to Hailey Baldwin and Kendall Jenner, among others. But although they've gone their separate ways, their fans are still hoping that they would reconcile, and photographs of them together instantly spark reconciliation rumors.

Since last year, Gomez has kept mum about their breakup, but in a new interview, the former Disney star has finally opened up about what it's like to date the "Baby" singer and why she understands why fans are still hoping for them to be together. She said that it's difficult for people to see her as a separate person from Bieber.

"The internet wants to freeze this moment in time and constantly repeat it," she told the UK's Sunday Times Style Magazine.

Although the media has scrutinized their relationship over and over again, the singer-actress said that she didn't think that there was anything wrong with being in a relationship with Bieber.

"I didn't think I was doing anything bad by falling in love," she told the magazine. "There's such an emphasis on people being the perfect thing and then destroying them because it's good press."

But she said that she has always believed in love. Before dating Bieber, she dated Nick Jonas and she revealed that when she used to date the latter, she wore a purity ring. Gomez said that she asked her father to get it for her.

"He went to the church and got it blessed," she said, adding that her father used her as an example to other children when she got the ring.

One thing that she takes away from her previous relationships is the knowledge that her next relationship will be special.

"The next relationship will be dear to me. There is no way I will ever hide my life," said Gomez.

This year, Gomez focused on making new music and movies, and aside from releasing the new single "Good For You", she also filmed three movies earlier this year. She will be seen in next year's "In Dubious Battle," "The Big Short," and "The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving."
