There will be two models of the Samsung Galaxy S9 coming out early next year. These will be the standard Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus whose firmware has been in development and started two weeks earlier.
According to tech outlet SamMobile, firmware currently in development for the Galaxy S9 devices revealed their model numbers namely G960FXXU0AQI5 for the Galaxy S9 and G965FXXU0AQI5 for the Galaxy S9 Plus. With this information at hand, it can be deduced that the Galaxy S9 will be known as the SM-G960 while the Galaxy S9 Plus will be noted as SM-G965.
This is based on the same coding scheme of the previous SM-G950 and SM-G955 of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus respectively.
The firmware development also started earlier by two weeks this year as compared to the Galaxy S8 in 2016. With more time allotted for coding and quality assurance, tech insiders surmise that the Galaxy S9 will debut with more bells and whistles.
With the firmware revelations, rumors have popped up in various industry circles. There have been reports that Samsung had been in talks with mobile technology giant Qualcomm to furnish the Galaxy S9 with the Snapdragon 845 processor. The South Korean tech company is also said to have wanted Qualcomm to give them exclusivity of the micro-processing chip, similar to what it did for the Galaxy S8 with the Snapdragon 835.
The Galaxy S9 is also rumored to have at least 4GB of random access memory (RAM) which will enable it to run more applications as well as perform processes faster. Dual cameras may be fitted into the devices just like the Galaxy S8.
The phones may have a slimmer form and run on the Android 8.0 Oreo. They may also sport the same-sized Infinity Display as the Galaxy S8.
No official release date has been set but the Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to arrive in April of 2018.
