Things continue to take a dark turn for the people in "Riverdale." A lot of things have been happening simultaneously in season 2 and if the second episode's synopsis is to be based on, the gang will be racing time to save each other.
The second episode, titled "Chapter Fifteen: Nighthawks," will have Betty, played by Lili Reinhart, leading a group to save Pop's after she finds out that their favorite diner and hangout is on the verge of being closed forever.
Elsewhere, Archie's (KJ Apa) series of unusual behavior has the gang bothered and they express their concern for his well-being. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) tries to look for a new lawyer to help his father in his legal woes. On the other hand, Veronica (Camila Mendes) clashes with her parents when someone who betrayed her in the past suddenly appears.
In an interview with TV Guide, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa discussed the new direction that "Riverdale" is taking and what to expect from this new approach. He said that while the first season focused on a murder and was told from different flashbacks, this season, aside from the ongoing mystery that they presented in the first episode, will also be weaving an aura of constant danger around the town.
It can be remembered that the first episode of the second season involved a shooting at the diner and a mansion being burned down. After Archie's father was shot in the season 1 finale, the redheaded hero scrambled to bring him to a hospital to save him. Last season also saw Cheryl Blossom, played by Madeleine Petsch, set their mansion ablaze, injuring her mother in the process.
Drama with the parental units continues to hound best friends Betty and Veronica. Alice (Madchen Amick) continues to display her displeasure with Betty's romantic relationship with Jughead, even going as far as suspecting the boy to be behind the shooting of Archie's father. On the other hand, Veronica's father Hiram (Mark Consuelos) came to Riverdale bringing with him his own displeasure at his daughter's behavior.
"Riverdale" season 2 airs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
