"Riverdale," the upcoming CW show based on the world of "Archie" comics, has cast two of its most beloved characters.

According to Deadline, Lili Reinhart has nabbed the role of Betty Cooper, while former Disney star Cole Sprouse will be playing Jughead. Reinhart is known for her role in the TV series "Surviving Jack" while Sprouse starred in "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" and spinoff series "The Suite Life on Deck."

The series, which will be set in the present time, is a fresh take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends while exploring the darkness and weird happenings bubbling beneath the wholesome town's idyllic façade.

Betty is described as sweet, studious, eager-to-please and wholesome with a massive crush on her longtime best friend Archie. Tired of being the perfect daughter, sister, and student, she turns to her new friend, Veronica, for advice.

Meanwhile, Sprouse's Jughead will be slightly different from the lazy and gluttonous character in the comics as he is described as a heartthrob with a philosophical bent. In the series, he is the former best friend of Archie and is still hurting from the rift that took place between the two.

According to the "Archie" comics official website, the show will focus on the love triangle among Archie, Betty, and Veronica and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books such as Archie's rival Reggie Mantle, Kevin Keller, and girl band Josie and the Pussycats.

The series was announced last month as The CW picked up four new pilots, which include "Riverdale" and a remake of the sci-fi drama "Frequency." "Riverdale" will be written by "Archie" Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions. Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter and Jon Goldwater will serve as executive producers.

A premiere date for "Riverdale" has yet to be announced.
