It has been more than a year since the final episode of "Rick and Morty" season 2 aired. This makes fans of the animated series more eager to find out when Adult Swim will release the premiere episode of season 3.

One of the series' writers, Erica Rosbe, earlier mentioned in a Chicks Who Podcast interview that the entire script of the season is already written. However, she explained that the show is still undergoing a slow animation process.

"We ended four weeks ago, I think. I think they're done soon, they're done really soon," Rosbe stated. "I think in a week or two they're going to have screenings in the production office," the writer went on to say.

This means that the fate of the show now lies at the hands of the people behind the animation department. If there are no problems occurring in that process, the animated series is expected to premiere later this year. But nothing has been heard from the animators of the series, which means that there could still be a chance to watch the third season of "Rick and Morty" sometime in 2017.

Meanwhile, series creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland recently held a Reddit AMA event to talk about the upcoming season of "Rick and Morty."

The series creators mentioned that they find several fan theories about the show quite amusing. But they mentioned that most of them are not true. They also debunked the theories claiming that the plot of the series comes from the dream of one of the show's protagonist, and each episode are just simulations from the dream.

Harmon also said that while they enjoy reading the fan theories, they can still say that none of them are close to the truth.

The series creators are expected to reveal the premiere date of "Rick and Morty" season 3 soon.
