'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date delay news: Launch for PS4, Xbox One updated

Console owners should get ready for another round of disappointment regarding Rockstar Games' upcoming "Red Dead Redemption 2," as the sequel has once again been delayed and will no longer be released in Spring 2018.

Instead, the developers of "Red Dead Redemption 2" have opted to push back the game's launch to Oct. 26 for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and the Xbox One. They did, however, apologize for the significant delay in schedule since the game understandably requires a lot more quality control and perhaps optimization for the ageing consoles.

"While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish. We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it," Rockstar  noted in a statement. Accompanying the statement are a few screenshots of the game aimed to soothe the dissatisfaction fans of the franchise may have felt due to the delay.

One of the said in-game screenshots shows some of the game's major characters riding horses and talking to each other in what looks like a cutscene. What sets it apart from the earlier screenshot is that it takes place in a snowy winter setting instead of a desert frontier. This could be indicative of just how huge the game world Rockstar Games is preparing for "Red Dead Redemption 2," seeing that it could be supporting a wide variety of climates and seasons. Fans are advised not to get too excited though as the said screenshot could be just a flashback cutscene and the locale might not really be included in-game.

Other screenshots reveal the usual desert and pre-1900s U.S. setting with saloons and large open tundras. So far there have been no changes announced by Rockstar Games regarding "Red Dead Redemption 2" other than the release schedule, and the game is still set to feature protagonist Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang doing what most outlaws do in the American Frontiers.
