'PUBG' news: Latest NVIDIA driver claims to boost game performance by seven percent

"PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" ("PUBG") players will need to update their graphics processing unit (GPU) drivers in order to stay competitive in the battle royale game, as the latest software update from GPU manufacturer NVIDIA promises as much as seven percent performance improvement for "PUBG."

With the advent of NVIDIA's 391.01 Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) drivers for its GeForce GPU brand, the company has boasted better performances for the said battle royale game somewhere from three up to seven percent. This might not be too big to impact gameplay, but "PUBG" players will need all the performance metrics they can gain from their hardware since it is quite a graphics intensive game for the multiplayer genre.

NVIDIA's engineering team did some internal benchmarks (performance measurements) starting with the entry-level budget GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with the resolution of 1920x1080 (1080p) and the latest drivers for the GTX 1050 yielded about a seven percent performance gain compared to the previous drivers. They did not specify what graphical preset they tested the GTX 1050 on, but the said GPU can only usually play "PUBG" at the "low" or "very low" preset.

Meanwhile, NVIDIA's top-of-the-line GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti GPUs yielded the same performance gain from the drivers at resolutions of 2,560 x 1,440 (1440p) and 3,824 x 2,160 (4K). This means that those who own anything in between the lowly GTX 1050 and powerful GTX 1080 Ti can expect similar performance gain seeing as how NVIDIA was consistent with its benchmarks.

The full results of said internal tests from NVIDIA can be seen on their official website, where the driver can also be downloaded there too.

Still, a disclaimer is in order because there were a lot of other factors in NVIDIA's benchmarks, such as a test system central processing unit of Intel Core i7-7820X running at 3.6 gigahertz (GHz) paired with 32 gigabytes (GB) of random-access memory (RAM) with a frequency of 2666 megahertz (MHz), not many consumer grade gaming PCs can match this setup in terms of performance. So replicating NVIDIA's results could be difficult for the average PC owner.

Nevertheless, downloading the drivers is a must for "PUBG" players since there is bound to be some performance increase of some sorts.
